600 MW Hybrid Solar-Wind-BESS Energy Platform

Location
Lualaba and Haut-Katanga, DRC
Status
SPV incorporated; preliminary project-development framework signed
Scale
600 MW hybrid renewable energy platform
Project Overview

Large-scale renewable energy platform combining solar photovoltaic generation, wind power, and BESS battery storage for strategic electricity demand in the DRC.

Strategic Importance

The project is designed to support the DRC's electricity access goals, strengthen industrial power reliability, and increase clean energy generation in provinces central to mining and industrial growth.

Investment Rationale

The platform combines large-scale renewable generation, storage, grid-connection planning, and potential industrial demand, making it relevant for infrastructure investors, EPC partners, DFIs, and strategic energy operators.

Project Milestone | 31 July 2026

Project Development MoU signed with a consortium led by SIA TESLA.

The preliminary framework supports project evaluation and structuring, subject to due diligence and separate approvals.

26 June 2026

Government protocol signed

A protocol agreement concerning the proposed hybrid solar-wind-BESS project in Lualaba and Haut-Katanga was signed between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and ARMAN INTERNATIONAL SARL.

June 2026

International due diligence underway

An official due-diligence process covering international technical and financial partners is in progress in support of the platform.

12 June 2026

Dedicated project SPV incorporated

Africa Hybrid Power DRC SARL was incorporated as the project vehicle for the 600 MW platform.

20 July 2026

Monitoring committee recruitment initiated

AIDG issued a call for expressions of interest for five specialist profiles to be proposed for representation on the project's monitoring committee.

July 2026

Partner facility site visits conducted

AIDG leadership visited operating utility-scale solar and BESS battery storage facilities in Europe with technical partners, assessing deployed technology, installation practice, and delivery standards for the 600 MW platform.

31 July 2026

Project Development MoU signed

Africa Hybrid Power DRC SARL and a project consortium led by SIA TESLA established a preliminary framework to evaluate, structure and, if separately approved, develop the proposed energy platform. The MoU does not constitute a financing or investment commitment.

On the Ground

Technology verified at operating facilities.

In July 2026, AIDG leadership joined technical partners on site at operating utility-scale solar PV and containerized BESS battery storage installations in Europe. The visits covered deployed inverter and storage technology, grid connection equipment, and installation practice — the same delivery standards specified for the 600 MW platform.

Field verification of this kind sits at the core of the project’s ongoing international due-diligence process.
